The Monterey Conference Center is committed to effective preparation for the H1N1 flu virus, including its recent participation in a special Webinar presented by the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) and its Academy for Venue Safety and Security (AVSS).

With more than 3,600 members worldwide, IAAM is the acknowledged leader in public assembly venue management, professional development, and the promotion of safety and security and preparedness at leading arenas, stadiums, convention centers and performing arts venues.

The H1N1 Webinar: Is Your Facility Ready to Fight the Flu? What You Need to Know—and Do provided the staff of the Monterey Conference Center with comprehensive information about the H1N1 virus, including symptoms and virus life cycle. Importantly, the Monterey Conference Center management team also focused on the latest resources and best practices to effectively cope with the H1N1 virus:

  • Learning protective steps for staff, vendors, customers and venue
  • Reviewing all available tools for continuing education and addressing concerns
  • Examining procedures to define and assess the venue’s risks
  • Developing communication plans and strategies to inform employees, customers and vendors
  • Taking steps to ensure that our business remains viable before, during and after the flu outbreak

Dan Concepcion, General Manager of the Monterey Conference Center says, “It’s critical for us to be as informed and ready as possible. We not only want to protect our operation but also demonstrate support for out of town visitors and the community, who are also our customers and business partners.”

The Monterey Conference Center is a publicly owned and run facility, under the mandate of the City of Monterey they have implemented the following pandemic action plan to assist and protect customers, employees and vendors:

  • Installed alcohol based hand sanitizers throughout the Center
  • Workforce pandemic surveillance
  • Emergency Response Notification and activation procedures
  • Implementing infection control guidelines
  • Executing post pandemic recovery measures
